37. CREATION OF A BOARDWALK ON PART OF THE

Bierbeek

This project involved the construction of a boardwalk along Voetweg 93, popularly called the "Het Boulevarreke". The “Boulevarreke” is of great importance for several reasons.

First of all, it is of cultural-historical importance because it is a pedestrian road that runs along the site of the former connecting road between the old priory of Bierbeek and the old water mill in the hamlet of Ruisbroek.

The “Boulevarreke” is also of ecological interest. It forms a corridor between two parts of the Wingevallei (Natura 2000 area - habitat area) and is itself located in a park and nature area.

The “Boulevarreke” is also of important recreational value because it can be used as a pedestrian path so that walkers do not suffer the inconveniences of traffic.

And finally, it also has a functional role as it is one of the routes taken for everyday journeys on foot between the Dorpsplein and the Gareelstraat and further on towards the Ruisbroekstraat.
