19 OPENING THE GETE VALLEY TO TOURIST AND RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES ? PHASE 2

Zuid-Hageland

The goal of this project was to redesign the walking facilities in the Gete Valley, in the zones outside the network of walks, and to improve the quality thereof. The project zone complied roughly with the walks in the ‘Hagelands Haspengouw’ brochure. There were no more copies of this brochure available and there was a strong demand from the municipalities to be able to offer high-quality walking facilities. This project also fited into a broader initiative of the Gete Valley, whereby the six municipalities involved (Geetbets, Hoegaarden, Linter, Landen, Tienen and Zoutleeuw) subscribed to the objective of increasing the landscape values, local identity and recreational quality of the landscape by mutual accord. Around 15 themed walks have been designed for the project in addition to the implementation of a Gete Valley corporate identity.
